Beach Profiles - Newport
littoral cell
The Newport littoral cell extends from Cape
Perpetua in the south to Yaquina Head in the north. The entire
shore may be further subdivided into four subcells known as Yachats,
Bayshore (Alsea Spit), Southbeach, and Newport. Within this cell,
the most concentrated area of coastal development occurs along the
Newport sub-cell and in Southbeach. Intense development is also occurring in the
south adjacent to the town of Yachats.
