Medford lidar data added to NOAA Digital Coast website

This data set adds to the Digital Coast lidar data sets for Oregon that are freely available for customized download, including the Columbia River data set. The Columbia River data set is now the largest lidar data set on the Digital Coast with more than 139 billion points. This survey encompasses approximately 2,836 square miles of territory in four states (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana), covering the Columbia River from the Pacific Ocean to the Canadian border. These data sets require specialized GIS software to view and use. Oregon lidar data also available for download from the OpenTopography and Oregon Spatial Data Library sites.
Today is the 312th anniversary of an Oregon-shaking event!

On January 26, 1700, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake, centered about 75 miles offshore, ruptured along a 600-mile-long fault running from Northern California to southern British Columbia, causing untold damage and destruction to the Pacific Northwest coast. The similar magnitude 9.0 earthquake offshore Japan on March 11, 2011 and the tsunami it generated provide a chilling parallel to what could happen here in Oregon.
